Starting out of our apartment with a prototype of a wine carrier we ran into the problem many start-ups face – trouble finding quality production and not being able to meet manufacturing minimums. The only way moving forward at that point was to buy a sewing machine and try doing it ourselves.
With the growth of our line we expanded our workspace, added machines and were able to hire and train skilled workers. The benefit of in-house production enables us full control over the quality of our products and flexibility for small to larger runs.
We now have a team of highly skilled craftsmen that are experts in manufacturing the best quality bags and accessories. All production, finishing, packaging and shipping is done in house to ensure seamless quality control to deliver our best product.
Due to our commitment to handmade quality we only keep limited stock of our products. Although immediate delivery is our goal, please allow up to one week for your order to ship.
We are sourcing the best quality materials from around the world using mainly wool felt, leather and canvas for our products.
All our felts are custom manufactured to our specifications in Germany by one of the worlds best manufacturers with a 150 year history. For Graf & Lantz products we choose 100% merino wool which is prized for its ultra fine fibers and soft feel. Merino is also unexpectedly tough and pill resistant and can take a lot of wear and tear while maintaining its colorful look and structure. It is also water and stain resistant due to its natural oils. If spills occur you can dab off moisture with a wet towel or rinse lightly with water. It can be dry cleaned as well.
Wool felt is considered to be the world's oldest textile with long and valuable history in many cultures and continues to be widely utilized today. With technology felt has come from a very coarse material to a luxurious fabric. Best of all wool felt is a natural, sustainable and biodegradable material. All Gräf & Lantz felt is certified according to the Oeko-Tex® standard.
Our leathers have variety of origins from luxurious supple leather from Italy to more rugged leather from renowned Horween tannery in the US.
Natural materials like leather can look and behave differently from hide to hide. Making of a bag starts with the selection of felt, leather and fabric and paying attention to how it lays or what are its surface imperfections. That determines where and how each cut piece will end up on a bag. And just as each hide differs from the next, each felt lot has structural run characteristics that determine how a bag will drop and hang and stand. We like the way this makes each bag unique as it is assembled and closed by our small team of experienced bag makers.
